In regards to drill, the first step is the form up the unit. In the Air Force our TI (drill instructor) would first put us at parade rest, and then attention. We would then form up by height. The TI would say, "if you are taller than the trainee in front of you, tap them on the shoulder and move forward." Once we did that a few times, the last step was dress and cover, and we were good to go.
