The word Stewardship comes from before the 1900's and it probably has an English root. A steward is a person who is the manager, or in charge of someone elses property. Usually finances or property. It can also be a person responsible for the welfair and comfort of others such as an airline attendant or a ship's officer. Also, an employee who is in charge of the finances or affairs of a group, company or an event. Other Examples,The steward of a shop, (the manager or the manager's assistant). A wine steward, (someone who takes care of the quality of the wine or vinyard)

To be a good steward, or to have good stewardship means that You are responsible for the property and comfort of others without cheating them, but being dilligent with management and taking orders from others.
