Best Answer

Not natural or genuine; artificial or contrived.

It's something that has not been brought on by natural events. Sort of like synthetic leather.

Synthetic refers to any material made from non natural sources. This means that a product such as cloth is made from a chemical source rather than the fibers produced by nature. Cotton, linen, and rubber are natural sources for clothing production. Rayon, nylon, and plastics are chemical compounds which are made from sources that are not produced from the ground. Oil products are particularly of concern simply because of their chemical composition. These products do not decompose because they are chemically produced. Another definition of synthetic is any product that cannot decompose because of it's combined components without chemical help.

Simply put, synthetic chemistry is the study/practice of chemistry as related to synthesizing (fancy word for "making") new chemicals. If someone is a synthetic chemist, they focus their efforts on making "stuff." It is the variability of the word "stuff" that makes synthetic chemistry different across the spectrum.

For example, a pharmaceutical chemist (a chemist who makes drugs) is a synthetic chemist. A polymer chemist (a chemist who makes polymers such as Rayon or Nylon) is a synthetic chemist.

Synthetic chemistry is a very broad term but focuses of the actual making new or variations of existing chemical stuffs.

Why do you use both natural and synthetic rubber?

Natural rubber is made from latex which is taken from trees and is widely used in many products to this day. Synthetic rubber is preferable in most applications today due to the fact that it is more durable than natural rubber and the chances of allergic reactions are smaller.

Antibiotics for human use are chemicals produced by?

antibiotics can be obtained from micro organisms by fermentation or by semisynthetically and those can be called as natural. and some antibiotics can be prepared synthetically by series of chemical reactions. those are synthetic antibiotics. penicillin is natural antibiotic which is obtained from P. notatum so it is natural antibiotic. and chloramphenicol is synthetic
