What is the difference between schizophrenia and schizoaffective disorder?

Dementia is a catch-all word for well, loss of the mental function, lit, out of the mind, De- Mentia. There are different types. Schizoaffective implies a sort of split personality and often violent mood shifts, secondary personalities ( i am not talking about the healthy kind manifested by writers and cartoonists doing different characters) they are both mental illnesses, but Dementia is vague, Schizoid is more specific.

∙ 15y agoSchizoaffective Disorder is a condition where there are other symptoms besides the ones for schziphrenia, or where there are only some of the schizophrenic symptoms present. For example, there are many conditions which may cause hallucinations, but only one of those conditions is schizophrenia. Shizoaffective Disorder may include symptoms such as mood swings, in addition to something like hallucinations or paranoia which might ordinarily be associated with schizopohrenia.

∙ 11y agoSchizoaffective disorder is essentially schizophrenia with mood disturbance (i.e. depression or Bipolar disorder) that must continue for at least one month with at least two weeks of mood disturbance. Schizophreniform disorder is a somewhat shorter type of schizophrenia where symptoms are present for between one and six months, and is otherwise identical to schizophrenia.

∙ 13y agoTrue manic patients can experience episodes of hallucinations and delusions similar to those seen in schizoaffective disorder; but these do not persist for long periods after the mania recedes, as they do in schizoaffective disorder.

∙ 12y agoSchizoaffective disorder is a combination of a mood disorder (whether it be depression, mania, or manic depression) and schizophrenia. A person with schizoaffective disorder will experience an episode of a mood disorder, and then later experience an episode of schizophrenia, alternating between the two. Schizophrenia is just schizophrenia.
