I AM IRISH, LIVING IN Ireland 40 YEARS ,ALL MY LIFE.I 'VE NEVER HEARD OF THIS SUPERSTITION. THE ONLY REASON I COULD SUGGEST IS THAT IT WOULD BRING BAD LUCK TO YEAR AHEAD.POSSIBLY THIS SUPERSTITION EXISTS IN A FEW PLACES. I DON'T KNOW IT TO EXIST IN THE NORTH. I,VE RELATIVES IN REPUBLIC NONE HAVE MENTIONED IT TO ME... Another answer I'm Irish too, and not only was I always told that opening a calendar before the 1st of January would bring bad luck, I was also told that moving to a month ahead was also bad luck.
