The 645E came out at around $1,500 dollars when first manufactured in the year 2000.

The price of new ones rapidly fell to around $700 dollars. Possibly in part because unlike it's brother 645 models....it lacked an interchangeable back which professionals like to use and it's pentaprism is fixed and one cannot use a typical waist-finder on it. Another reason for the lack of interest might have been the plastic body. It seems they have been very durable cameras but the plastic body gave pro's the impression it wasn't a serious camera.

It is, however a serious camera as it uses the 645 line of lenses and can take great images.

Today price depends what's comes with it and what condition it is in. A typical kit would come with a 120 film insert, 80mm normal lens, and a "rapid winder" which gives you the advantage of an added handle and the ability to wind by cocking the leaver rather than having to turn a crank. That was a 700 dollar camera when brand new.

So the same 645E today would go most likely in the 400 dollar give or take a hundred range depending on condition. If it's missing a lens or doesn't have the rapid winder, or necessary film insert or is missing the winder handle....it would be worth less than that because most likely you would have to buy some of those items .

The 645E is considered a good "beginners" camera as it takes great images, is very inexpensive, and has fairly broad line of inexpensive but good quality 645 lenses that will fit it. And Medium format film is still a very good media to use and then scan for use in your digital darkroom.

Despite the fact that it's known as a good beginners camera....it is in fact a serious camera and if you do not have specific needs that professionals may have....it may be the only medium format camera you ever need.
