the best chicken to have is a 'orpington' because they will are very VERY large birds as well as good layers
DaveScriv's contribution:
Although Orpingtons have fine qualities, so do all the other hundreds of breeds; every one of which is someone's favourite.
You might as well ask which is the best breed of dog? The answer would depend on whether you want it to win cups at dog shows, round up sheep, guard your property, or sit on your lap, look cute, and not need too much 'walkies'.
Its a similar situation with chicken breeds. there are big table breeds, smaller high egg production breeds, spectacular looking breeds to strut round your garden or win prizes at poultry shows (like dog shows, but for chickens. they've been going since 1845), there are quiet docile breeds (ideal for suburban gardens & nervous novice poultry keepers), and there are nervous, flighty breeds (with extra survival instinct, ideal for free ranging in places where there are foxes around).
Choosing a breed to keep, whether it be chickens, dogs, cats, horses, or whatever else, should first be a realistic assessment of the environmant you can offer and your priorities (trust me on this, the novelty of eating fresh home produced eggs soon wears off!), then read a lot of relevent books, and only then make a short list of breeds which seem to fit your needs (and you like), and then make enquiries to discover which of those breeds are available within a reasonable travelling distance.
the breast but if you are posh then the leg.
A pure breed chicken is a chicken that has been made by the same kind of chicken, so if 2 different kinds of chicken's mate, then they wont make a pure breed chicken, but if 2 of the same kind of chicken mate then they make a pure breed chicken Sorry if it doesnt make sense
The Leghorn is mainly used because it is the best layer chicken but other hybrid layers could be used.
chick mash is the best for nigerian whether .
You want to choose a chicken that is genetically prepared to do what you would like them to do. For instance, if you want to breed chickens, look for a chicken that has the best traits.
gold chicken
Depends on the breed of the chicken
It is usually a Barred Rock but it is best to have a rooster. (a rooster is a male chicken)
A purebred chicken contains a lineage of the same breed, say all Barred Rocks, with no other chicken breed in their parentage. A mixed breed chicken is like a mutt- it has at least 2 different breeds in its lineage and shows qualities of both breeds.
