If meditation is not the thing for you another great way to relieve stress is to talk about it to someone.
Another is to set yourself up in a calm and sotthing ambience and think things throught until you have mentally solved everything and can return to your natural state of mind.
Stress comes in two forms... one, where it is caused by an unmanageable or frustrating occurrence or two, a chemical imbalance. To relieve stress in the former, one must be able to train the mind to eliminate the unmanageable situation or digress from it. This may be difficult for people who suffer from regular anxiety and stress in the latter form may need a doctor's advice.
In my opinion, creativity tends to alleviate stress. One can not be creative at all while stressed or angered, unless said creativity needs to have the essence of such. Being angered or stressed can also block out creativity. I find creativity a good counterweight when I'm feeling stressed and I find that what was once unmanageable becomes easier to challenge later.
Exercise, and also music.
Sex. I swear, it's really great exercise. If I could get some, I wouldn't be so overweight that I am now!
