The most common causes of an UTI (urinary tract infection) in children are: 1. an uncircumcised penis 2. poor hygiene 3. anatomical anomalies within the urinary tract.

Essentially, bacteria from the anal area find their way into the urethra and subsequently make their way into the bladder (cystitis) and may perhaps all the way up into the kidneys (pyelonephritis).

Addition: While An uncircumcised penis can trap the bacteria which leads to a UTI it is however not the cause,Poor personal hygiene of an uncircumcised penis would be the cause.The failure to wash before and after sexual intercourse...Also the failure to wash properly before changing from vaginal to anal intercourse and vise-versa.

The most common cause of UTIs are bacteria from the bowel that live on the skin near the rectum or in the vagina, which can spread and enter the urinary tract through the urethra. Once these bacteria enter the urethra, they travel upward, causing infection in the bladder and sometimes other parts of the urinary tract. Another cause of UTI is waiting too long to urinate.

Sexual intercourse is a common cause of urinary tract infections because the female anatomy can make women more prone to urinary tract infections. During sexual activity, bacteria in the vaginal area are sometimes massaged into the urethra.

The cause of UTI is bacterial infection. Typically in young to middle aged women the bacteria responsible is E. Coli. This bacteria is frequently found in human feces. Women tend to get UTI's much more frequently than men for 2 reasons. Their urethra is much closer to the rectum which increases the chance for E. Coli infection. And they have a much shorter urethra. Other bacteria can also be responsible for UTIs but they are much more common in elderly women.
