Air resistance is the force exerted on an object when it travels through an atmosphere. It can be used to slow objects down, such as skydivers, however in most applications, the object is to avoid air resistance. Vehicles, such as a Toyota Prius, or air planes, such as a commercial jet, strive to avoid air resistance (or become more aerodynamic) as a way to decrease fuel consumption or increase maximum speed.

Air resistance increases exponentially with an object's velocity.

  1. Air resistance is extremely important in speed skating. A race can be decided on one one-hundredths of a second, so being as aerodynamic as possible is very important to reduce drag and skate faster.

As an object falls, it pushes air out of the way as it falls. Air is pushed up in the same direction and with the same amount of force applied known as air resistance.

Why does the oscillation of a pendulum gradually slows down after a certain interval of time?

Energy is gradually lost, through air resistance, and resistance in the string.Energy is gradually lost, through air resistance, and resistance in the string.Energy is gradually lost, through air resistance, and resistance in the string.Energy is gradually lost, through air resistance, and resistance in the string.

What is the force that opposes the motion of objects through air?

Air Resistance is the kinetic friction of the object's surface moving through the air. In aeronautical terms this is known as drag.

Is air resistance in a ball being thrown?

Yes, air resistance is on everything where there is air.

Does weight affect air resistance?

Weight of an object is usually the downward force that it exerts which results in its motion when an external force is absent to balance it off completely. (free fall) or partially as in our case of air resistance in the question.Air resistance offers a force , or pressure (force per area) on the object that falls and effectively reduces the Weight of an object to some extent..Air resistance affects weight and it is of little importance to discuss the vice versa

What is the relationship between air resistance and movement?

When an object falls through the air encounters air resistance its overall speed will be than if it had not encountered air resistance?

The resistance do obstruct the object. The object always travel slower with air resistance. Air resistance is higher with velocity and the object falling through air would have a limited velocity that it can't go through.

How are air resistance and friction alike?

Air resistance is a type of fluid friction (along with water resistance) and is therefore is a type of friction.
