Whats the Difference between slide-in and free standing in kitchen stoves?

slide-in the top sides sits on top of the counter and has no legs,free standing has legs on it
Oops, a slide-in range does have legs. The main difference is that the top of the range (deck) overhangs the sides and rests directly on the adjacent countertop. The tricky part is that the legs have to be adjusted so that the deck rests VERY lightly on the countertop. It takes a lot of trial and error to get it just right. A slide-in has a much more "finished" look to it. It looks like it is built-in but it's really not. The slide-in is also more expensive. It really shouldn't be because it doesn't have sides and is usually smaller than a freestanding. You are paying for the "built-in" look; which really is nicer in my opinion.
Correction here: a slide-in range does not rest on the countertop. That is a drop-in range. A slide-in is just like a free-standing with side panels and legs except that the control panel is on the front of the unit. The cooktop is flush with the countertop with no stand-up control panel at the back of the unit.

∙ 8y agoA fireplace (or in this case a fireplace insert) has a chimney and a freestanding stove does not. It will usually have a pipe funneling out the smoke like a chimney, but that requires cutting holes through the walls, sometimes floors, and usually the roof depending on if you decide to have it come out there or the side wall of your home. A fireplace has a direct path to the sky and has no need of having the smoke pumped out somewhere else. The only requirements are that you make sure nothing blocks the path to the open air for the chimney and that you clean it every so often

The choice. Run or hide? Crucial to a game of cat and mouse. Choosing the right time to run, and right time to hide, will give the pursuer a sense of hopelessness after a while. Making him say those ever so satisfying words, "Olly olly oxen free!"
