Example:Human egg cell/ovum

This is an example of a totipotent stem cell.

Totipotent stem cells are those cells that can transform into any type of cell.

There are many types of stem cells like pluripotent stem cells, multipotent stem cells etc.

The difference between body cells and stem cells is that regular cells make up your body and only one job to do while stem cells can change into other types of cells such as muscle cells, skin cells, etc.

A stem cell is a cell that can become any type of cell. A primitive cell is a cell on the way to becoming a specialized cell. Thus, a stem cell is in your bone. It can become a primitive cell. The primitive cell goes to your thymus where it is turned into a mature cell to fight infection. Or a stem cell can be turned into a primitive red blood cell. When the red blood cell loses its nucleus, it becomes a mature red blood cell able to carry oxygen.

Ordinary cells already have a set funtion, e.g. brain cells think and control our body, skin cells are basically skin, etc. Stem cells are non-specialised cells, and have the ability to grow into other cells. Humans have stem cells when they are born. These stem cells them become specialised and have a function. Sometimes, stem cells are taken from an embreo before they become specialised, and may be used in later life if the human needs to use them, e.g. they have a disease, so the stem cells can grow into whatever they have the disease of, therefore curing it.
