Isotopes are those element which have same atomic numbers but different atomic masses.

Example- Hydrogen has three isotopes, namely, protium, deuterium and tritium

Isobars are those elements which have same Atomic Mass but different atomic number.

Example- Calcium and Argon

Assuming the mass number is A, the neutron number is N, the atomic number is Z; then:

  • Isotopes are nuclei with the same Z but different N
  • Isotones are nuclei with the same N but different Z
  • Isobars are nuclei with the same A (where A = Z+N)

Isobars are contoured lines of constant atmospheric pressure and isotherms are contoured lines of constant temperature. Hope this helped! :)

What kind of weather do ice-o bars bring?

Isobars on a weather map indicate areas of constant pressure. They circle areas of high or low pressure. Isobars themselves do not indicate weather, but are a tool for understanding large scale weather processes as related to pressure systems. However, if the isobars are close together, wind is expected.

How do you determine low pressure and high pressure using isobars on a weather map?

High pressure: The isobars will be far apart. Low pressure: The isobars will be very close together.

What does close spacing of isobars on the weather map represent?

Closely spaced isobars indicate large pressure changes over a small area and suggest strengthening winds.Widely spaced isobars portray a "flat" or weak pressure gradient typical of light-wind situations.

On a weather map how can you compare the speed and direction of winds?

By looking at the isobars.

What are the lines in a weather map that connect points of equal air pressure?

On a weather map, the lines that connect points with equal barometric pressure are called Isobars.Iso = equalbar = pressure

What is weather like near isobars?

There is no specific "weather" description near isobars. Isobars are simply lines joining points of similar atmospheric pressure to indicate current and project future weather patterns related to pressure and therefore wind (movement of high pressure to low pressure). Therefore, a combination of the pressure the Isobar is indicating combined with other factors will determine the actual weather at that location.
