Data is only an output, while information is actually informative.

For example.

Information:

Error 0x00085F the file could not be saved because the destination disk cannot be found. Please insert disk and try again.

Data:

There are 27 eggs left.

Data does not, by definition, contain any logical structure, purpose, or use without accompanying data, or utilized by a program or process which can interpret the data. Data is just a spew of 'facts' without any supporting arguments or conclusion.

IE, your computer crashes every 15 minutes. (Data)

Analysis of this data would show that it crashes every 15 minutes because your virus scanner starts scanning every 15 minutes, and causes a fatal error. (Information)

In a simplified structure for computers, Data is simply factual productions on the system, while information is analyzed and interpretted data, typically by a human or a data-to-information conversion process created by humans.
