How might one distinguish between delusional disorder and schizophrenia?

Delusional disorder is characterized by a tanaciously held belief with no accompanying hallucinations. This is the single distinction as some sub-types of schizophrenia are very symptomatically similar to delusional disorder. The delusion can be erotic, jealous, grandiose, persecutory, or somatic and attempts to question it are met confrontationally.

∙ 14y agoSchizotypal personality disorder is characterized by odd behavior or thinking, but no dissociation, hallucinations or complete breaks with reality. To put it another way, SPD people always know who they are and what they are doing, although their perception of their world may vary from the norm. Schizophrenics sometimes do not.
