Socialism is mostly economic and Statism is both economic and political. All Socialists are Statists but not all Statists are Socialist (Case in point: Iran, Statist but not officially Socialist)

Socialism identifies a class struggle between the one percent who own the world and the rest of the population, who have to work for wages. The solution is to abolish the wages system and establish a classless society. Modern-day populism has vague ideas about ’the people’ vs some elite, but has no real idea about doing away with this.
