This happens to be ANOTHER explanation of the very same misconception.
"Being in love" and "loving someone", usually the former is said when the feeling of love manifests and takes over unexpectedly while the latter is said when you are fond of a certain or all the concern person's attributes and in the process you fall in love with you finding them to be a source of solitude and also commonly referred as "ultimate way of escape" from the problems/miseries of life. You also say you "love someone" when you're dating them in hope that they are your true "soulmate" and you see the ray of hope to be more and more reliable with every passing instant.
