a reptile is a cold blooded genus of animal that lays eggs and generaly has a slow metabolism. they are often also poisonous.

a mammal is a genus of animal that (except for the platipus) gives birth to live young and has a fast metabolism. this means that they use up energy much faster than reptiles and tend to live a shorter life (size for size). they tend to move around much more whereas a reptile will often slows its metabolism and wait for food to come near it instead of the energy-costly mamalian tactic of looking for food. only one mammal is poisonous, again its the platipus.

mammals have the advantage of being able to live in a wider variety of habitats than reptiles due to their warm blood which means that they can keep themselves at the optimum temperature (as long as food is available).

also mammals tend to be covered in fur and reptiles are covered in scales.
