Molly (short for "molecule") is a name for MDMA (3, 4 Methylenedioxymethamphetamine) - a psychedelic phenethylamine, with noticably different effects from its root chemical amphetamine. It causes intense euphoria and passion between the stimulant and psychedelic effects.

"Molly" is usually sold as a more pure form than "tabs," which are considered ecstasy (xtc, x, etc.), but almost always have other ingredients, such as DXM, MDA (and other MDMA analogues), non-psychedelic amphetamines, mescaline, and even opiods.

Although ecstasy originally meant MDMA, "tabs" are now sold as ecstasy, and ecstasy doesn't always mean MDMA. The synergy between the drugs partnered in "tabs" is often very dangerous.

MDMA was designed by Anton Köllisch on Christmas Eve in 1912, with the intention of finding a compound that could stop abnormal bleeding. Although MDMA has been argued to have practical medical use, its possession and use in almost all countries has limitations set by the government.
