Pepsin is produced by stomach cells in its inactive form pepsinogen, Pepsinogen is then activated by the stomach acid into its active form, pepsin. Pepsin breaks down the protein in the food into smaller particles.

Why does the chemical digestion of proteins start in the stomach?

How proteins are digested?

Proteins are digested by proteasees (enzymes) in the digestive system. Trypsin, peps, chymotrypsis are the proteases of stomach that start digesting proteins in to peptides. Enteropeptidases further digest them to small peptides and finally amino acids.

How does temperature help control enzymes?

Proteins change shape as temperatures change. Because so much of an enzyme's activity is based on its shape, temperature changes can mess up the process and the enzyme won't work. High enough temperatures will cause the enzyme to denature and have its structure start to break up.

Where does carbohydrates begin?

Carbohydrate digestion begins in the mouth, where saliva and chewing both start to digest those kinds of foods.Mouth, saliva contains the enzyme amylase which breaks down sugars (carbohydrates)

What do enzymes do in the human body?

Enzyme: [n.] Any of numerous proteins or conjugated proteins produced by living organisms and functioning as biochemical catalysts.Enzymes allow chemical reactions to occur at normal body temperature by lowering the activation energy needed to start a reaction.

What binds to the prokaryotic chromosome to start DNA replication?

Regulatory proteins bind to the prokaryotic chromosomes to start DNA replication.

Where do you start to digest food?

You start digestion in your stomack

Why conditions in the stomach are acidic?

The stomach is acidic because the stomach lining produces gastric acid. This helps the body start to digest proteins as well as provides a protective barrier against most bacteria and viruses.

How do you prepare enzyme?

To prepare an enzyme, you must start with material with a high concentration of the enzyme, and then purify it many times. Be sure to avoid excessive heat.

Do all proteins start with methionine?

Proteins have undergone post-transcriptional modifications, thus may not start with methionine after it has been modified.

Where does chemical digestion start and which enzyme does it involve?

Digestion starts as soon as food is put into the mouth. Your teeth break up the food into smaller pieces and the saliva in the mouth starts to digest the food by helping to break down the food even more. The main digestion takes place in the stomach with hydrochloric acid. I'm not sure what the actual enzyme is that's in the saliva though.
