Crocuses are the first perennial to bloom in most parts of this country. They bloom in February. Tulips, Daffodils, Grape Hyacinths, Snowdrops also bloom in March, and the fuzzy buds on pussywillows are seen in mid March. Unless you are in a desert climate (Arizona, Southern California, etc.) or subtropical climate (Florida) you will only see bulbs blooming before Spring.
I would venture to say a Crocus.
