I am going with Crocus. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Crocus
Snowdrop.
Spring's first bloom
It depends on the type of flowers. It also depends on the climate and location. Additionally, it depends on the type of flower. Hepaticas are some of the first flowers to bloom in the spring.
I am guessing it is the CA golden poppy. They are our state flower and are one of the early Spring flowers out.
Crocuses are the first perennial to bloom in most parts of this country. They bloom in February. Tulips, Daffodils, Grape Hyacinths, Snowdrops also bloom in March, and the fuzzy buds on pussywillows are seen in mid March. Unless you are in a desert climate (Arizona, Southern California, etc.) or subtropical climate (Florida) you will only see bulbs blooming before Spring.
They first bloom in the spring.
