I have a 1994 Chevy 1500 pickup the whole truck has original 350 engine ,trans and rear end with no rebuilds at all.The only major repairs I have done myself were rear main seal replaced and intake manifold gasket and my truck runs great and has 400000 miles on it now i once heard of someone haven a 91 Chevy 350 pickup with original engine that turned over 1,000,000 miles but replaced trans 3 times anyways from the story I was told that GM offered him some sorta deal in exchange for them to have his truck in order to do research one the 350. i heard that on a radio station a while back. My 350 use to smoke a little but i found out that the engine wasn't breathing well enough so i replaced the oil cap with a breath oil cap and repaired PVC system never smokes now or burns oil, now in some mornings maybe ill see a lil smoke from oil probably valve seals but quits right after start up.

The actual mileage that can be achieved in a Chevy depends on which Chevy you actually own. For example a well tuned Chevy 350 will do around 14 miles per gallon.

Most likely bad valve guides and seals. Pretty normal for a high mileage Chevy.
