The modern day history of Jehovah's Witnesses began with a group of bible students in America associated with Charles Taze Russell, who sought to discover the body of truths contained in The Bible free from any religious dogma. The group grew and eventually adopted the name "Jehovah's Witnesses" in 1931. Jehovah's Witnesses maintain that their real roots lie with the first century congragation of christians founded by Jesus himself and seek to reestablish a congregational or worship system in imiatation of such ones. They believe that any faithful servant of God (Jehovah) should righfully be identified as a one of Jehovah's Witnesses.
