mindanao-is a combination of two words: min and dana-o. as the words evolves like for example telescope. telescope derived from tele & scope which means far & see. likewise, the words mindanao refers to "min" is a higaonon dialect which means "what is familiar in the particular place. And dana-o is a higaonon dialect also that refers to a certain confine place. "min" became a prefix for referring a place or a residence in the area and dana-o means there or here. for example, if the plenty of the place is durian (dulian in bisaya) that place will be called MINDULIAN; TUNGAS-means uphill will be called mintungas; if i win-means da-ug in bisaya they call me MINDA-UG; LAYAS (ESCAPED)-MINLAYAS; du-aw means visit-mindu-aw; dagko-growth it will become mindagko; and so on. DANA-O also refers to

brown small silent men living particular place in a cluster and later on it became a named of the people living in the island of MINDANAO as the time passes by. Just like LUZON, previously it was lusong-a wooden mortar used to pound rice.
