Hanoi is cooler and greener.
Saigon in hot, muggy, but very lively.
Hoi An is quiet and laid back with beaches.
Da Lat is up in the mountains and like living in a garden.
Nha Trang is a noisy beach town.
Plenty of other centers with their own personality. Depends on what you are looking for.
There are many things to do and see in Vietnam. For one, you can go sightseeing and go to the beaches there, all of which are very wonderful to look at. There is also sand sledding, which is fun and helpful because kids who are not able afford school help out here and you get to interact with them and donate a little something after. They also have cruises you can go on and a lot of places to go shopping at.
For young 18 year old teenage men, riding the ultimate off road vehicles (Tanks & ACAVs), being issued fully automatic weapons (M60, grease guns, M16s, and .50 caliber machineguns), FREE AMMO, FREE GAS (or diesel), no off road vehicle restrictions nor permits needed, getting paid to shoot all that ammo and burn all that fuel, with FREE FOOD, and helicopter rides, and the whole time being with your friends (brothers in arms); the central highlands were beautiful, Cambodia with it's banana trees & forests was beautiful, the Khe Sanh foggy mists were exciting, the Mekong Delta "nippa palm" swamps were hot and muggy (with a swampy smell)...but in the evenings it too was pretty.
Only a millionaire could afford to do those very same things today. Without those brothers in arms, without free ammunition, food, fuel; without the tanks and ACAVs, without that ultimate freedom (that wild west freedom...no licenses, no permits, no signs, etc.)...South Vietnam was just like any other war torn place; hot, dusty (muddy), cold, smelly, insects, snakes, leeches, cold food (C rations), no showers (had to use rivers), no baths (or a creek), no telephones, no television, no bed, NO TOILET (dig a hole), no computers, no cell phones, sometimes no mail. Friends, freedom, and adventure made the wild west beautiful.
A long, narrow country squeezed in between the South China Sea and the Laos and Cambodia borders, Vietnam is a land of striking landscapes that range from the lush rice terraces and forested mountains in the north to the picturesque valleys of the Central Highlands and the fertile delta and beautiful beaches of the south. Included in the mix are booming modern cities, colonial towns, traditional villages, archaeological sites and otherworldly islands. An overview of the best places to visit in Vietnam.
for advanturers there are many places like the Phong Nha cave in Quang Binh, Phanxipan peak in Lao Cai, Central highlands, Mekong deltas, Halong bay etc.
