A true, non-fading black horse is rare and very beautiful. Plus, they aren't prone to stains and color fade. There isn't another color that shines as nicely as a nice rich black coat.
Also, any color tack looks good on a black horse, even white.

Black horses are very good horses, I must agree. If you are going black, then I'd suggest a Frisian. They are always black. I think that Dark Bays are also great colors. Appaloosa colors are great too. Heck, all horse colors are great. Don't buy a horse for its color. Buy the horse for the horse. I wouldn't worry about the color. If you have the best tempered horse in the world and its a great riding horse but has a SUPER ugly color... who cares? You got the best horse ever. But if you go and buy horses for their color, you might end up with a beautiful horse with a nasty temper. You'll find yourself falling out of the saddle more then staying in it.
My personal favorite is palomino because I like the color and the breed works for my event (barrel racing) but I also like quarter horses which are most common in barrel racing.

Generally their temperament is outstanding and they are a very loyal breed. They are willing to attempt any challenge and they are they are an extremely smart breed.
