a six guage is the lowest i would go because any guage lower than that u wouldn't even want to shoot it would kick so hard
PS the 6 guage is nicknamed the elephant gun because back in the day that was the only gun that would penetrate elephant skin from a reasonable distance
I don't really think it matters how strong the gun is as long as you hit it in the right spot. I hunt with just a 20 guage, and I've killed quite a few deer.
