There are seven groups of islands that make up the Aleutian Islands. The groups are the Commander Islands (owned by Russia, not the US) which is made up of two islands: Bering and Medny. The Rat Islands are made up of 12 different islands including David of Island, Bird Rock, and Rat Island. Islands of Four Mountains includes Herbert, Carlisle, Uliaga, Kagamil, Chuginadak, Amukta, Chagulak, and Yunaska islands. The Andreanof Islands is the largest group of islands and is made up of more than 70 islands. Buldir Island is the only Island that isn't part of a group.

The population is around 8,000, most of whom are Aleut, a division of Eskimo peoples. I believe there are US Coastguard and Navy bases there also.
