it is a symbol of commissioning into a certain part of the church
Anointing is the giving of authority or commission by a superior to someone who does not yet have that authority.
Second anointing was created in 1843.
The anointing is a religious term that is used to describe being used or chosen by God. There is nothing that a person can do to get the anointing but living an unclean life will keep the anointing from coming upon someone.
The sacrament of anointing the forehead with oils is done in baptism, and is also done when anointing the sick for healing purposes.
The parish priest should administer anointing of the sick.
Catholic AnswerUnction is anointing, usually specifically, it refers to the Sacrament of Anointing, or as it used to be called, Extreme Unction. Catholic Dictionary by John A. Hardon, S.J. Doubleday & Co., Inc. Garden City, NY 1980Unction. Any anointing with Oil with a religious purpose; whether in actual conferring of a sacrament, as in confirmation and anointing of the sick; or as part of the sacrament's ceremony, as in baptism and Holy Orders; and in using a sacramental, such as the oil of St. Serapion, the martyr. (Etym. Latin unctio, from unguere, to anoint.)
It has changed but little over the years. Today's anointing is usually done with concecrated oil (Pure olive oil) set apart for that purpose. One drop is placed on the persons head then a blessing is given by the laying on of hands by one or more people who hold the authority to anoint.
It is not necessarily given during the anointing of the sick, but can be if requested.
"Through this holy anointing may the Lord in his love and mercy help you with the grace of the Holy Spirit" Amen. "May the Lord who frees you from sin save you and raise you up." Amen.
Baptism, Confirmation, Holy Orders and Sacrament of the Sick all have an anointing.
Apostolics do believe in the anointing of the Holy Ghost.
