Britain's rocket programme was called the Blue Streak programme. It was a ballistic missile project that aimed to develop an intermediate-range ballistic missile for the British Royal Air Force. However, the programme was eventually canceled in 1960.
That would be the German V-2 short-range ballistic missile. After WWII, Allied forces obtained the blueprints and even some of the scientist for the rocket, and it paved the way for modern rockets. America even used the V-2 as a base for the Saturn V.
It came from Russia, which was at the time the USSR, the Soviet Union.Sputnik 1 was launched from Gagarin's Start which is the 5th Tyuratam range, located inKazakh (now at the Baikonur Cosmodrome).Sputnik 1, the world's first artificial satellite, was launched from the Baikonur Cosmodrome in Kazakhstan, then a part of the USSR.
On May 5, 1961, Shepard piloted the Freedom 7 mission and became the second person, and the first American, to travel into space.[3] He was launched by a Redstone rocket, and unlike Gagarin's 108 minute orbital flight, Shepard stayed on a ballistic trajectory suborbital flight-a flight which carried him to an altitude of 116 statute miles and to a landing point 302 statute miles down the Atlantic Missile Range. Unlike Gagarin, whose flight was strictly automatic, Shepard had some control of Freedom 7, spacecraft attitude in particular. The launch, return from space and subsequent collection by helicopter were seen live on television by millions.
In 1962, the world learned that there was a build up of medium range missiles and missile bases in Cuba. U2 spy planes actually photographed the missiles and the bases.
The Agni-IV intermediate range ballistic missile's range is 3,200 - 3,700 km.
A missile with a range of 3500+ miles is an intercontinental ballistic missile (ICBM).
In April 2009, they shot "TD-2" ICBM (inter-continental ballistic missile). Since then they have a new long range missile shot in January of 2010.
Unguided ballistic missile. By today's standards, it would probably be considered a medium range missile.
The intercontinental ballistic missile (ICBM) was the eventual method developed to deliver nuclear weapons. The variants IRBM (intermediate range ballistic missile) and SLBM (submarine launched ballistic missile) are currently used, along with cruise missiles. However, some weapons are still carried by jet bombers in the USAF's Air Force Global Strike Command (formerly Strategic Air Command).
An intercontinental ballistic missile, or ICBM, is a long-range (greater than 5,500 km or 3,500 miles) ballistic missile typically designed for nuclear weapons delivery, that is, delivering one or more nuclear warheads.Source: Wikipedia.

The main cause of the Cuban Missile Crisis was the 1500-km range of the Soviets' only usable ballistic missile. The only way they could terrorize us with missiles was to station them in Cuba, where there were already Soviet troops.
