On May 1, 2011 President Obama announced that Osama bin Laden was killed by US forces.

Previous answers:

The United States can't just barge into Pakistan without upsetting somebody so Osama Bin Laden is pretty much untouchable, unless the UN can come to an agreement.

It took the United States and Mexico 10 years to bring in Geronimo.

It took the USA. 7 years to find Eric Robert Rudolph.

It took Israel and the entire world 15 years to find Adolf Eichmann.

The world is a big place. Bigger than people realize. Have you ever gone to a crowded place like a sports event or an airport and gotten separated from someone? It can be difficult to find them. If someone doesn't want to be found in such a crowd, it can make your task even tougher.

Many experts think Osama bin Laden is somewhere along the Afghanistan and Pakistan border. That region is noted for its rugged terrain, its culture of hostility to outsiders and fierce loyalty.

Plus you have to remember, UBL spent a lot of time in that region in the 1980's and again in the 90's.

If he is in that region, we aren't going to find him. It will take a member of whatever tribe is keeping him safe deciding that its more trouble than its worth keeping him safe.

Another point to ponder is that maybe Pakistan is keeping him safe because he is influential and can organize and since Pakistan is paranoid about war with India, they want to keep all the help they can get.

At any rate, killing or capturing UBL now would do little. the time to have gotten him was in the 90's.
