section 1: Method of Election It says we have 2 senators for each state that are elected and serve for 6 years. and each senator gets one vote.
section 2: Vacancies When a Senate seat is vacant, the government has to hold another election to fill in the seat. And the government has the power to fill in the seat until the new Senate is elected.
section 3: Exception The senators already elected by the state legislatures were not affected by this amendment.
The 17th Amendment changed the constitution in that it now required Senators to be elected by popular vote in each state. Before, Senators had been chosen by state legislature, bypassing the voice of the people. The 17th also said that State Legislature may be empowered to fill an unexpected vacancy provided it be temporary, and the people given the chance to vote and elect a permanent replacement.
The 17th amendment deals with the Senators from the states. It provides a method to allow governors and states to appoint a successor to someone that has died or resigned from their position. It also requires them to meet any additional requirements that the state has set for their legislatures.
the seventeenth amendment says that the common people vote for the United States senators, instead of state legislators as it was before the amendment was made.
In giving the elective power to the states, the framers of the Constitution hoped to protect state independence
