What is the spiritual meaning of air?

In The Bible air signifies the Spirit of God. In Genesis 2:7 it says, And Jehovah God formed man from the dust of the ground and breathed into his nostrils the breath of life and man became a living soul. In John 3:8, Jesus said, The wind blows where it wills and you hear the sound of it, but you do not know where it comes from and where it goes. So is everyone who is born of the Spirit.

2 Timothy 3:16 says according to the Greek text, All Scripture is God-breathed.

Acts 2:2-4 says, And suddenly there was a sound out of heaven as of a rushing violent wind and it filled the whole house where they were sitting. And there appeared to them tongues as of fire which were distributed and it sat on each one of them, and they were all filled with the Holy Spirit and began to speak in different tongues even as the Spirit gave to them to speak forth.

From these passages of Scripture we can see that air firstly signifies the Spirit of God. When God breathed into man the breath of life He created a spirit in man as an organ to receive God as life. This was the first step in God's creation of man to make him a vessel to contain God. Whenever a person opens up himself to God, calling on Him in prayer God enters into him as the Spirit making his spirit alive with the life of God Himself. This is to be born again. As believers, we should breathe God in continually by contacting Him in our spirit in prayer. This is the first aspect of the spiritual meaning of air.

The second aspect of air is that it represents the Spirit of God as power for service. In Acts 2 it says that a mighty wind came and filled the house where the believers were sitting.....and they were all filled with the Holy Spirit and began to speak. Their speaking was their announcing of the good news of the gospel. The Spirit empowered and emboldened them to speak the wonderful news of God's salvation in Jesus Christ.

All believers have both aspects of the Spirit signified by the air: the breath of God within them for their life essentially and the wind of the Spirit as the power for service. There is no need to ask for these. We must simply declare by faith that we have received the Spirit in these two aspects and we will have them as long as we fully confess all our sins, short comings and failures to the Lord. Once we have thoroughly dealt with sin in our life and experience the cleansing of the Lord's blood we will experience the Spirit as the air and the wind.
