Motorcycle speedometers are notoriously inaccurate and errors as high as 15% are pretty common. Consequently, any measurement not made with a radar gun, a GPS or a similar accurate instrument is not to be taken seriously.

The fastest I went with my modified '02 GSF1200S (stage 1 jet kit, timing advancer, Yoshimura RS3 stainless with midpipe, 107Hp on the wheel) is 228km/h (GPS reading), but it's not it's top speed. I had taller than stock windscreen and a Givi Wingrack 2 with a 36L top case. Your results can and will vary depending on several variables, from the bike's state of tune, to the altitude/weather, to your weight and riding position. Faired Bandit will, for example, surely be faster than naked model when all else is equal.

As far as top comfortable cruising speed goes, it's for me 160-180Km/h. I held it in that range for several hours with the bike fully loaded (about 160L of luggage). Again, your results...

Previous answers:

1. 148 from a fully standard bike

2. Not sure where they 148 came from but I am a bandit owner myself. My bike is all stock. The fastest I have gotten up to was just over 170 mph on a strait hot road. The speedomiter only reads to 170 so past that you just have to guess. I would say after a bit of time at full throttle it crept up to around 173mph. The bandit runs right at 80mph in first gear at full rpms as well.

You need to specify how its been restricted. Normally its inserts in the air intake of the carburettor which restricts the airflow or it could be inserts in the exhaust manifold to slow down the exhaust gasses being emitted. the simple answer is to remove them or have them removed

What does gsxr stand for?

GS - Gran Sport, used to indicate a road going Suzuki standard motorcycle, the only model that still uses this designation in the Suzuki line up is the GS500. XR - eXperimental Racing. Designation added to GS for Suzukis road legal race replica motorcycles thereby creating GSXR. There are additional suffixes added to the GS "road going" moniker such as GSX (just Gran Sport eXperimental) for the Katana motorcycles or GSF (the F stands for something in Japanese that I can't remember but generally indicates a sporting but not race replica trim) for the Bandit motorcycles. To be noted, the Hayabusa is technically not a GSXR but some hybrid between the that and the Katana given it's model moniker GSX1300R. Also to be noted, Suzuki's non-road legal race bikes are coded as XR for just eXperimental Racing.

How do you adjust the idle speed for gsf 500?

Warm the bike for 45 seconds with choke open all the way. If you look under the carbourators, just above the block there is a little white plastic piece that you can adjust the idle with, make sure the bike is totally warmed up, ride it if necessary. The normal idle on a warm gsf500 is 1500 rpm.
