Despite its 1934 series date the "D" series letter indicates your bill was printed in the late 1940s. As of 03/2015 approximate prices are:

Circulated: $12 to $20 depending on the bill's condition

Uncirculated: $35

Serial Numbers

A bill's serial number is a counter and a security feature. In most cases it doesn't affect a bill's value or help to identify it. Some collectors specialize in bills with low serial numbers (e.g. 00000005) or unusual patterns (12344321) so these can bring above-average prices.

DISCLAIMER: The values quoted are market averages as of the date shown, but may be different for an individual bill due to variations in quality and other factors. Also the wholesale (buying) price of a bill will be less than the selling (retail) price. A reputable currency dealer will be able to give a more accurate valuation based on an in-person inspection.

Despite its age, a 1934 A $10 FRN is fairly common among collectors. As of 06/2010 retail prices are in the range $12 to $20 for a circulated bill and $35 or more for a nice uncirculated one.

Federal Reserve Notes are normally distinguished by having green seals. If your bill has a blue or yellow seal it's a silver certificate; please see these questions for more information:

"What is the value of a 1934 A US 10 dollar silver certificate?"

"What is the value of a 1934 A US 10 dollar bill with a yellow seal?"

However, if your bill has the word Hawaii printed on it and a brown seal instead of a green seal, it's much more valuable. These were specially printed for use in Hawaii during WWII, and retail anywhere from $45 to $300 depending on condition.

What is the value of a 1934 J US 10 dollar silver certificate?

"D" is the highest letter for all 1934-dated $10 bills regardless of whether they're silver certificates or Federal Reserve Notes. If the "J" is in a large circle to the left of Hamilton's portrait, please check the banner across the top of the bill - it's almost certain you have a Federal Reserve Note and not a silver certificate. What is the value of a 1934 E US 5 dollar bill with a green seal?

Please check your bill again. If it has a green seal it should say Federal Reserve Note across the top front, not silver certificate. In addition, there were no 1934-E $5 bills of any type so most likely you're looking at the Federal Reserve District letter and not the series letter, which is next to the date.
