Look on the back of the coin to see if there's a small mint mark letter under the eagle. It may be blank or there may be a CC or (unlikely) an S.

1878 was the first year of issue for the Morgan dollar and there are 5 different major varieties of the 1878 Morgan dollar, plus there are 2 different mintmarks. The most common type in circulated condition is $25.00 to $50.00
