If the reaction to the betadine is consistent with contact dermatitis(hives, redness, some swelling, itch), the treatment of choice would be a steroid injection and possibly a steroid cream. Of course an emergent anaphalactic reaction to betadine would be epinephrine. Any forms of body detoxifications are available and some could be used together for a more complete (faster) effect.
Ionic Cleanse foot bath: A session is usually half an hour. The feet are placed in a tub of salt water. The process uses electrical current (NO shock or pain present) to pull the particles in the water apart presenting charges (that alternate +/-) that pull the oppositely charged toxins from the feet. Be alert of the knock-offs. A voltage of less than 16 is insufficient. At this rate, the particles break apart and reconnect at the same rate, making the process useless. One session typically shows results but a couple times a week for 6 or so weeks is ideal for a full toxicity-removing effect. Also, be aware that the process removes pharmaceuticals (toxins) from the system so meds should be taken after. Likewise, some necessary vitamins and minerals could be removed. A multivitamin afterward is recommended.
Body cleansing system: Many of these are available on the market. A 1-, 2-, 3-, or 4-week commitment is usually necessary. One or more tablets of a variety of herbs and tinctures (each cleansing a particular organ or system in the body) should be the basis of the system. It is best to eat as much fruit and vegetables and drink as much water as possible while on the system. What good is a digestive tract cleanser when you are ingesting "dirty" food? These systems are available separately by organ or body system, but also as a whole body cleanse including the blood.
Important note: Bactrim has been fatal and can cause permanent kidney damage. After leaning of an allergy to Bactrim, you should check other meds for sulfa or sulfanomide. These ingredients could keep the reaction present until removed from the body.

If a patient is allergic to betadine, most commonly, a physician will use alcohol as a prep. This is the case with an iodine allergy as well.
You should not use Betadine if a patient is allergic to iodine. Betadine contains approximately 1% iodine, which could be enough to cause an allergic reaction.
Betadine is a topical antiseptic that is widely used to sanitize the skin, especially before a surgical procedure involving the cutting of the skin. It has occasional use as a topical treatment for oral infections. It should NOT be swallowed like an oral medicine, and in that sense should NOT be taken orally.

A 5% betadine solution is best for dogs and cats. Mainly use for aseptically cleaning of wounds and surgical suture (after spaying and neutering). Watch for excessive discharge on the wound site, if this happens. Flush it with saline solution and the betadine to dry it. Minimize the use of betadine to once every other day and watch for allergic reaction. If your dogs or cats are allergic to seafood, DO NOT USE it. Consult a nearest DVM if symptoms persist. Be kind to animals. Yours truly, Jon D. DVM.
