What is wrong when you turn on the sink the bathtub fills up with water?

I had this problem last year. I didn't pay much attention to it and ended up with a big flood which went through the ceiling of my kitchen downstairs. Many service men and inspectors came and couldn't find the problem. Finally, a local old plumber came over and said that my exhaust pipe up on the roof was clogged. This is the pipe sticking out of the roof that is connected to the bathroom pipes, not an exhaust fan. He unclogged the pipe very easily for about $40.00. If it's very clogged, a plumber can "snake" it for about $100.00. I have never had the problem since. Hope this helps.

∙ 15y agoThere is a blockage in your main sewer line. This is what is causing this problem. Get a Plumber asap, to come and clean out your sewer line before it gets worse. Glad you caught it early.

∙ 10y agoThe drain is blocked further down than both. You need to 'snake' the drain.

The sewer line is plugged or collasped. The sink and bathtub may drain because they drain at a slower rate. Toilet is all at once and the drain can't handle it. Water has to go somewhere so it backs up in the sink and tub.
