The term "clerical speed" is not well defined. Clerks do many different things and the speed with which they do those things is not measured the same way. In other words, you can measure how many words per minute a clerk can type, and how many pieces of paper can be filed per minute, and how many numbers can be added up, and so forth, but these are all separate measurements, they do not add up to "clerical speed".

This aptitude can be tested by speed of number checking (comparing two lists of numbers) and can be an indicator of how well a student does in school. An individual with low clerical speed may not be able to complete tasks in the time given and as a result grow frustrated with school. Many times, these individuals will have very strong aptitudes in other areas to compensate. These individuals may gravitate to work which involves their strengths. Jocrf Testing is highly recommended for this type. Take it from someone with extremely slow clerical speed.
