- The work of Otto Hahn and Fritz Strassmann, in Germany and Lise Meitner and Otto Robert Frisch, in Sweden showed in January 1939 that uranium fissioned when struck by neutrons. Thus it might be a suitable material for making atomic bombs.

∙ 11y agoNo one man came up with the idea alone. However there is a letter written by Einstein to Roosevelt in the Bradbury Science Museum in Los Alamos, NM where Einstein introduces the idea to president Roosevelte.
