I don't think you understand Jamestown. It was a fort built in swampy land with bad water and mosquitoes. The 104 men who came to look for gold found themselves dying of disease, bad water, starvation, and in an Native American empire of 15,000. There was no opportunity for the men who came only death. Within 6 months only 34 men were alive and they survived by eating rats, shoe leather, and their dead friends.
