There are several factors to be honest but it will take us forever to pin-point all of them so I'll go on and name something that I think is detrimental to everyone.
1. Lack of living space - At some point the Earth's population will become to big places will become overcrowded and there will be a small amount of HEALTHY living space available for every single person in the world.
2. Pollution - When the population becomes too big, people will find a way to use up most/all of the Earth's resource and pollute the planet if we don't control the population boom in the future.

The problems with modern surgery is that there is too much being done on patients that might not need it. Also, there are so many more elective surgeries being done in the modern day.
