Cycling-rod answered this question as shown below. Why has Cassandra given as being the answerer?
As the American and Ally forces fought from island to island, getting ever closer to the main Japan island, the death rates (on both sides) was enormous. It was expected to be even more so on invading the main island of Japan. Even the civilian population was expected to fight to the last man! On some islands, civilians chose to commit suicide rather than face the Americans. So strong was Japanese Propaganda that the American's were devils that would show no mercy to the civilian population. In order to reduce the death rate and to bring Japan to a surrender, and so to end the war, two nuclear bombs were dropped. It had the desired result of causing Japan to surrender and so end the war. You have to understand that only in our modern day hindsight, is the full dreadful consequences of nuclear weapons appreciated. Let us hope that never again will nuclear weapons be used.

To bring about the quickest end to the war.
to end the war and cos japan dropped a bomb in the us on perl harbor,so that's th reason!
Using the atomic bomb would ultimately save more American lives by making a full-scale land invasion unnecessary.
To bring about the quickest way to end the war
Because he was upset they did not share their ice-cream!
To bring the war to a quick end and save lives which they did. Japan surrendered after Nagasaki was atomic bombed.
It didn't. Wrong war. It wasn't invented until WWII.In WW2 however the atomic bomb was dropped on two cities from japan; first on Hiroshima, then a second dropped on Nagasaki when japan didn't surrender after the first atomic bomb.Japan was given no opportunity to surrender after the first atomic bomb. Truman's order to use the atomic bomb authorized use as they became available. The only reason Japan had a chance to surrender after the second and before the third atomic bomb was the third was still being prepared and crated for shipment at Los Alamos. Had Japan not surrendered the third atomic bomb would have left San Francisco on a B-29 on August 18 and probably been dropped between August 25 to August 28.There were another 20 more atomic bombs scheduled for production & delivery on Japan from September through December of 1945.
They did work
To destroy England
Absolutely, their spies had given them the full plans prior to the Trinity test in July.
On August 14, 1945 the US dropped the atomic bomb on Hiroshima Japan. The authority was given President Truman under the council of James F. Byrnes.
