Nirvana is the ultimate "state" of extinguishing of all desires and cravings in Buddhism. But, Buddhism is more a philosophy of life than a religion. Buddhists do not believe in "God" and "soul/spirit". Nirvana is the absolute "truth" which is non-conceptual and therefore ineffable. "
In contrast to all other monotheistic religions, the ultimate aim of an Buddhist monk or practising Buddhist is to break the infinite cycle of deaths and rebirths (SAMSARA), by attaining Nirvana or cessation of desire.

In the Buddhist religion, Nirvana is the state of eternal bliss and liberation from the cycle of birth and death. It is the ultimate goal that individuals strive to attain through enlightenment and spiritual practice.
Nirvana is not a physical place or destination that can be reached. It is not a state of eternal bliss or happiness. It is also not exclusive to any specific religion or belief system.

Enlightenment is a concept mostly associated with Buddhism and Hinduism. In Buddhism, enlightenment is called nirvana. Nirvana is believed to be a state of peace and unity with the cosmos. Hinduism also uses the concept of nirvana, called moksha, considering it a representation of freedom from desire and other worldly passions. Enlightenment is also part of the conclusion to the Hindu cycle of reincarnation.
Nirvana is the simple word Buddha uses to describe what we would call Enlightenment. Of course, our word does not suffice as Nirvana is inexplicably incomprehensible, and is yet achievable. The religion is Buddhism.
Nirvana in the Hindu religion means having a connection and being at peace with Brahman. Brahman means the reality of the world.
