The "Strait of Gibraltar" is the Atlantic entrance to the Mediteranean Sea, on the north side of which is the Rock of Gibraltar.

The Pillars of Hercules refers to two rock promontories located where the Mediterranean and the Atlantic meet. The one on the North side is the Rock of Gibralter (in Gibralter), the one on the South is Jebel Musa (in Morocco).
The rock that guards the Mediterranean is the rock of Gibraltar. It has been a symbol of British Naval strength since the 18th century.
