I will tell you this, I have heard many people say that it is Onyx, however Onyx was destroyed at the end of the book, The Ghosts of Onyx, and therefore cannot be that.
There was a Marathon symbol on the planet there, however it is doubtful this actually has anything to do with the Marathon game series or what the planet itself is, and is most likely just there as a nod to long-running Bungie fans.
He is believed to be floating towards the forerunner homeworld, because if you visually compare the planet on an HD screen with the brightness turned up, it is a match to the Forerunner homeworld in HALO Legends

Master Chief is from Halo Halo wars masterchief was not in due to him at young age halo 1 is when masterchief is first seen on the Piller of Autem Halo 2 is when he is seen 2 and you dont play as him the whole game. halo 3 is the best part of masterchief he is seen in that game Most people think he dies at the end of halo 3 due to the crashed ship at the end and 117 on the ship wing. But if you have in on legendary it reveals at the end the beginning of halo 4 and a ship heading toward a unkown planet.

Well actually in Halo: Reach at the end you see that they moved him into a diffrent ship but never un-freeze him. and at the very end you see the ship him and cortana were in at the end of halo 3 crash landed on reach. Hey, actually at the very end of Reach they show Master Chief and Cortana but not were they were in halo 3. When you see him,hes is frozen at the time of Halo 1 not Halo reach. This can be very confusing, I know. Remember, Reach is a prequal to Halo 1.( Halo Reach happened before Halo 1 but not made before.) =P

No. Halo Wars was set far before the happenings of Halo 1, which had the Master Chief in it. Sargent Forge (Also not sharing the same name with the Chief) was killed at the End of Halo Wars, and could not have lived on to take part in the happenings of Halo 1.

Because at the end of Halo 3, Master Chief and Cortana don't make it through the portal in time so they are left drifting.
