If you have been chosen to speak at a funeral here are some suggestions on what to say:
- You could mention the person's character
- Speak of his accomplishments
- Tell what you will miss about the person
- Tell what you experienced with the person - story of something you did together or you consider special
- If everyone hated the person who died then just say some polite things about the person unless you believe the people TRULY would want to say "Yea, the smuck is gone." I have actually seen that happen. But, don't do this if you are not 100 percent sure no one cared for the person. If that is the case you may find an empty funeral service.
- Some people have celebrated a Christian's going to be with Jesus Or a Jew going to be with God and you could give a message of how much that person is so blessed to be in Heaven and that he or she would also want the people in the audience to join him up in Heaven some day. Express joy and comfort to the family and audience.
- If the person was special (but not a Christian or Jew or Muslim) you could bring flowers and a small glass of Grape Juice to use for a toast to the person and your wish of a great next live.
- If you are not real acquaint with the person just give him a goodbye speech and bid him a good farewell and extend consolation to the family.
