The reflection and refraction by water droplets in the sky causes the formation of rainbow. When white light from the sun enters a spherical rain drop, the light is refracted or bent. the different colours of light are bent through different angles. After reflection from the back inner surface of the drop, the different colours of light are again refracted as they leave the front surface.
