yes, you can turn story mode off in the options. that way other familys don't progress like in the sims 2

ON THE IPHONE/IPOD: Yes, Ambitions is NOT an add on. You don't first need Sims 3 in order to play Sims 3 Ambitions. However, the two games can exchange data if you do have both. ON PC/MAC: I believe that Sims Ambitions does require Sims 3 for PC/Mac as it is an expansion pack. However I do not have the PC/Mac version so I am unsure.

What you can do is go to the Neighnorhood and click on familys and look around for an icon that says "move out family" click it and then you clcik on the house you want and then they will move out and your other family can move in! Hope this helps!
